Charity of the Year

Each year we choose a local charity to support by member vote.  We try to tie the charity in with one of the WI's ongoing campagins (see below).  This year our chosen charity will be the Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership which ties in with the WI's No More Violence Against Women campaign launched in 2019.  PDAP will receive money raised from our monthly raffles, along with practical items they need for their clients which we will collect through a couple of donation nights through-out the year.  You can find out more about PDAP through their website at www.pdap.co.uk.

Our Campaigns

Have your voice heard and make a real impact on local, national, and global issues by getting involved in WI campaigns.  Our campaigns bring together WI members to take action and achieve real change in policies and practice on issues that we care about.  The WI’s democratic model means that every member has a say in our national campaigns, and every resolution stems directly from the concerns of members. Every year we vote on a number of resolutions put forward by our membership and the winning resolution provides a focus for action in the following year.

On a local level we have been involved in initiatives such as ‘Fruit Revival’ (using locally growing fruit to create seasonal dishes and drinks – and to be preserved in jams and chutneys) and ‘Help our High Streets’ (supporting local initiatives to keep a busy and varied retail presence in Holmfirth).

In 2020 and 2021 we were able to support River Holme Connections by carrying out socially distanced litter picks along the banks of the River Holme – a reminder of a very successful campaign by the WI in 1954 which led to the formation of Keep Britain Tidy!

In 2022 we supported our two local foodbanks Holme Valley Food Bank and Full Life Church Food Bank and raised £470 plus bags and bags of food for them.

For 2022/23 the national campaign was 'Thinking Differently about Autistic and AHDH Women and Girls' and our Charity of the Year was the local Huddersfield Support Group for Autism.

Thank yous...

We are so grateful to our local businesses who are always so happy to help us in our fundraising efforts. Morrisons Supermarket creates a lovely hamper for our Bumper Christmas Raffle and shops and businesses on our local high street respond positively to our requests for help. We are all looking forward to the time when we can safely start browsing and buying in our lovely range of independent shops and supporting our local businesses.
