TIME TO TALK “ORGAN DONATION”

Holmfirth WI having been taking a pledge to help in the NFWI (The National Federation Women’s Institute) 2014 campaign. The National Federation Women’s Institute are encouraging members to talk about organ donation with their loved ones, this is to ensure families can respect personal wishes. Organ donation is a personal decision, but once you pass away, this choice will lie with your loved ones.

6 counters, 6 stickers, 6 conversations

The women in Holmfirth are taking a pledge to have 6 conversation with family and friends about the “Time to Talk” campaign. Each time they talk either to a loved one about their own wishes, or encouraging a friend or colleague to do the same, they can pass on a counter and take up the national challenge to commemorate that in some creative way, and share it on social media #timetotalkWI

This campaign is the WI’s 2014 resolution, voted in at the 2013 AGM.

The NFWI notes that three people die every day whilst waiting for an organ transplant. We call on every member of the WI to make their wishes regarding organ donation known, and to encourage their families and friends, and members of their local communities to do likewise.

2013-14 figures show family consent in the UK to be just under 60%, this is one of the lowest rates in Europe. The hope is that this will rise to 80% come 2020. WI members can play an important part in supporting this.
